Congress At War With America Part Two

For some time, economists have been predicting the price of oil would drop simply in response to serious high level government discussion that the US might begin offshore drilling.  The idea was that any dialogue favorable to increasing domestic supply could signal speculators that the party may soon be over.  Last week, President Bush lifted the ban on drilling put in place by his father and challenged congress to lift its own version of the ban.  Predictably, congressional leaders scoffed at the idea saying: "We can't drill our way out of this problem."

Surprise! A week later, oil prices have dropped and the price of regular at the pump has come down as much as ten to fifteen cents per gallon.  Maybe speculating about drilling is having some effect, or maybe it's just a coincidence.  Either way, it is a little early to predict the outcome based strictly on dialogue suggesting we might be interested in increased energy independence.  While talking about it gives us a glimpse of how the market responds to rhetoric, real and lasting price reductions can only be achieved through increasing supply.

Current majority leaders in congress could never agree to considering offshore oil exploration. To do so would be like admitting they were wrong to oppose it in the first place.  And imagine the fallout if that straegy proved to be effective in reducing oil prices.  Democrats aren't about to let that happen.  That course of action isn't available to those beholden to environmental extremists and billionaire globalist George Sorros.  So, what is their plan?  It's a shell game, no pun intended.

Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi recently led congress in forcing Bush to reduce shipments to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve by 70,000 barrels a day, presumably to help ease our pain at the pump.  If they think seventy thousand barrels will make a difference, why wouldn't they think a million would be better?  They do, but haven't a clue where to get it from.

In an act of utter stupidity, congressional democrats offered another proposal calling for the release of oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserves.  Reid's and Pelosi's so called solution, though flawed, unwittingly revealed that they do understand the laws of supply and demand and acknowlege that we indeed are experiencing the effects of an energy shortage.  In spite of this, they will thumb their collective noses at any real remedial measures.  Their proposal is bad for America and if we listen to them, we'll lose our safety net and end up more vulnerable than ever to international extortion or worse.

First, the SPR is intended to keep America up and running in the event that our oil supply is abruptly cut off.  This is a matter of national security.  It's not intended to give temporary comfort to consumers.  By using that supply, we weaken our ability to survive a true crisis, should one occur.  Second, it isn't cheap.  It's hard to find any logic in energy policy that calls for consuming sixty dollar a barrel oil that we'll need to replace with oil that could cost more than twice as much.  We'll pay one way or another.  By the way, $60 bucks was the price of a barrel of oil when democrats took control of congress in 2006 and promised to do something about high gas prices.  Well, they've done something alright, they've made it worse.

Instead of increasing our domestic oil supply, Reid now wants the legislature to consider a bill limiting oil speculation.  The strategy, proposed by the democrats, is only the latest example of their endless quest for power and control over everything and speaks volumes of the left's love for the socialist idiology and their contempt for the free market.

Reid, Pelosi and their minions hope to drive down the price of oil by crushing the entrepeneurial spirit that is at the heart of this great nation.  Their strategy, if successful in the short term, will undoubtedly make room for a ten cent gas tax, which may be what they've been looking for all along.  Having failed to muster support for a windfall profits tax on big oil, they turn to the only other suckers in the room - us.  That giant sucking noise is the sound of money leaving our pockets.  Memo to Harry and Nancy:  The original idea was to LOWER gas prices.

The democrats' solution to our energy woes is the same solution they offer for every other problem - bleed American families dry while gradually claiming more and more regulatory control over our lives.  To add insult to injury, a number of republicans are acting just like them, apparently in denial of the socialist cancer metastacizing in the body of congress.

Tapping the SPR is a dangerous move.  It compromises our ability to respond to real threats from outside our borders.  Keeping America's war machine well lubricated is vital to our defense, although that's not much help against the enemies inside our borders - the congressional traitors we're paying to destroy us.

Congress At War With America

This week, President Bush lifted the executive order banning offshore oil exploration.  The move may be nothing more than symbolic however, because congress must add it's blessing as well.  Given Nancy Pelosi's long standing opposition to the idea, it's probably safe to say the proposal is DOA.  Liberals in congress will fight this at every turn and propose their own remedies for higher energy costs, none of which will add one drop of energy to help meet our needs nor bring the costs down.

It's understandable why those in the pockets of environmentalists would want to cover their backsides when it comes to increasing domestic oil supply.  The last thing they want to do is appear to their constituents as enabling evil oil company executives to further increase revenues.  Meanwhile, frustration at the pump grows to the point where people are willing to consider even the most inane remedial proposals.  There's an old Yankee saying that applies to situations like this. "Do something, even if it's wrong."

Politicians pandering to an agitated electorate have threatened to punish oil companies for having the gall to make a profit in these tough economic times.  But oil companies don't set prices.  The market sets the price based on the principle of supply and demand.  It's no more complicated than that.  Still, some think a windfall profits tax will teach oil companies a lesson.  Here's a tip for consumers.  If that happens, expect to pay a little more at the pump.

Government has no right to limit the profit of any company in a free market economy and absolutely no power to do so in the global marketplace.  If it did, we'd be enjoying two buck gas.  If China is willing to pay more for oil than we are, don't be surprised to see OPEC supertankers sailing east instead of west.  Which brings us to the real question we should be asking.  What if we can't get all the oil we need?

It's important to remember that nearly everything we eat, drink and wear comes to us via truck, train and airplane, all of which run on some form of fossil fuel.  Our homes are heated by fossil fuels or byproducts thereof.  Imagine if that supply was interrupted indefinitely.

How long can you heat your home on the remaining contents of your oil tank?  How long can you survive on the food in your refrigerator-freezer?  Faced with the prospect of starving or freezing to death, you'd probably grab your family and head for greener pastures - if only you had some gas.  Perhaps we'd be better served to stop obcessing about the price of gas and turn more attention to the availability.  Therein lies the greatest threat to our country.

We've allowed environmental extremists to hijack US energy policy via the lie that is global warming.  Environmentalists have successfully pressured congress into preventing offshore exploration for domestic oil leaving this country vulnerable to any number of international threats, including those which could ultimately bring about our demise.  If our oil supply was suddenly cut off, this country would collapse in a hurry.

Members of congress are directly responsible for the dangerous position we find ourselves in today.  They have not acted in the best interest of this country and it's citizens.  Their treasonous actions have led America to the brink of possible destruction by rendering us at the mercy of those who would just as soon see us dead.  Of course, none of this bothers far left members of the democratic party and socialists everywhere who despise capitalism and the American way of life.

As emerging markets grow in places like China and India, we can expect to see ever increasing energy problems due to competition for existing oil supplies.  By preventing the increase of our domestic supply, liberals in congress are waging a stealth war on America - quietly enabling the enemies of this great nation.

A Fourth To Remember

After seeing fifty eight July Fourth celebrations, I've become a little less excited about them.  It's not that I've lost any patriotic feelings along the way.  It's just that fireworks, parades and things like that have become somewhat repetitive and commonplace over the years. The newness and originality of the Independence Day celebration had worn off a bit and lost a little of its former luster.  OK, I was bored with it all.

This year was different.  No, there were no fireworks or parades, floats, marching bands or military formations.  We didn't make a pilgrimage to any historical locations or watch any documentaries on the birth of our nation.  One of my daughters got married this July 4th and for me, it was just what the doctor ordered.

My beautiful child chose this day because of the deep sense of pride and devotion she has for her country.  All the centerpieces were a red white and blue theme as were the flowers in her bouquet and the decorative piece at the top of the wedding cake.  It was heartwarming to see this shameless display of patriotism.  In an age of so much criticism and hatred for America, she made me as proud as could be.  Her conservatism and love of country gives me hope that our grandchildren and future generations will enjoy the right to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness.

I've always told my children they are the greates contribution I could ever make to this world.  They'll be here after I'm gone and it gives me great comfort to know that the spirit of freedom lives on in them.

As a bonus, the groom's birthday is the fourth of July, so that added even more meaning to the celebration.  He's an immigrant from Guatemala with lofty goals. He wants to become a US citizen one day and eventually, a cop.  With so many of our fellow countrymen seeing only the gloomy side of life in these United States, this young man and millions like him see boundless opportunities unlike anything available to them in their own countries.  Their hungry and ambitious nature stands in stark contrast to that of a great many American youths who can do little more than gripe about how unfair life here is.  (A trip to Sudan might be an eye-opener.)

It's interesting that this young couple chose Independence Day to begin a lifetime of dependence - dependence on each other.  Together in unity with the Holy Spirit, God's grace was shed on them.  They'll need it too.  Though life is easier when two share the burden, it's not always so easy to maintain the cohesive bond of a relationship and work together for common goals. Still, they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them.  He is the foundation of their relationship - the solid rock on which they can stand.  I pray He will always be the centerpiece of their marriage, that they will be safe in His rest and know Christ as the one on whom they can truly depend.

Thank you God, for the best Fourth of July of my life.

The Right of the People

The recent Supreme Court ruling on the DC gun ban is a welcome relief to those who "cling to guns or religion", but the 5-4 vote was a little too close for my liking. It should have been 9-0 and it shows how important the court is in the grand scheme of things. It also clearly highlights how important one vote can be. The Constitutional rights of American citizens were decided by one man - Justice Kennedy, who cast the swing vote.

Another thing this decision revealed is how so called intelligent people continue to get tripped up by the use of the word "militia". It's not as confusing as the meaning of  "is", but difficult for some just the same. In this case, four of the most powerful people in the country got it dead wrong.

The Second Amendment says this: "A well rgulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Those confused over the Founders' intent are either ignorant of historical fact or pushing an un-American agenda. For decades the enlightened thinkers of the Left have been trying to convince the rest of us that the people's right to bear arms is contingent on being members of a well regulated militia. (one well regulated by government) Not so. Indeed, the opposite is true. A well regulated militia is contingent on the people's right to bear arms. In the minds of our Founding Fathers, the right to gun ownership was understood. It was the purpose that needed explaining.

The Founders understood the corrupt nature of man. They knew the ruling class would have trouble resisting the lust for power over the masses and the citizens could one day have to rise up against tyranny. The Second Amendment was established as a remedy of last resort to just such a problem and claimed for "the people" the right to resist via an armed militia. Operative word - "armed". Think about it. Just how effective could an unarmed militia be?

The Framers' intent was not to guarantee our rights to hunt reindeer, but rather to reserve for the people the right to rein in our government. Sounds like simple logic to most of us, but the Left has never been particularly logical. In addition, any possible grassroots uprising to their socialist schemes is a threat that cannot be ignored. How many times have we seen that scenario played out? Enemies of our country know the fall of capitalism is hastened by disarming the people.

Gun owners won an important battle for our rights, but don't become complacent. In the time of the "living Constitution", things can change fast. Traditionally, Supreme Courts have been hesitant in vacating previous court rulings as a matter of respect to their predecessors. Precedence was something to be honored, but honor isn't a hallmark of liberalism.  Convoluted thinking is and there is no guarantee that future courts made up of activist liberal judges would exhibit that same respect. In fact, it is quite likely that this ruling could be revisited one day out of total disrespect for the conservatives who tried to preserve the cornerstone of our democracy and fend off the socialist machine.

The war will continue and it's vital to the future of this nation to remain vigilant against the enemy, but millions of Americans don't know who the enemy is. It is the responsibility of those who do to identify him for the rest. He is Barack Obama and his legions of Marxist supporters who's mission it is to render us broken and defenseless against the advancing army of globalists.

Never again should our liberties be subject to the whims of one man and it's become crystal clear that the real battle is for control of the court. Bring that understanding to the voting booth in November. For now, be thankful for the birthday present from the five justices who still understand the meaning of "is".  It means to "exist" or to "be". In this case, it's a state of being - a state of being free.

Happy Birthday America! May God bless you always.

Carbon Stocks

Lots of people think global warming is a serious problem.  I'm not one of them, but no one can deny that a whole global economy is being built around it. New business and investment opportunities are popping up everywhere.  Consider the following.

Millions of babies in third world countries have carbon footprints that are relatively insignificant, consisting of nothing more than the co2 they exhale.  Adults in those same countries have much larger carbon footprints even if nothing changes but the size of their bodies. A fully grown adult will naturally exhale a higher volume of co2 than a baby and therefore makes a greater contribution to global warming. But thanks to increased ethanol production, that problem is being mitigated.

Increased ethanol production has created a global food shortage resulting in a glut of abandoned infant carbon footprints. Now, for the first time, you can buy carbon offsets in the value of those abandoned footprints and hold onto them until they mature, just like the real thing. Imagine, carbon offsets for pennies on the dollar! What a great addition to your carbon retirement portfolio. Buy now while supplies last.

Don't feel guilty. These kids are dieing anyway. Why not invest in this once in a lifetime chance for giving real meaning to their sacrifice? Check out the International Carbon Footprint Clearinghouse in Brussels where smart investors can take advantage of this great opportunity to counter global warming and buy a clear conscience at the same time. Visit their website: www.genocideisgoodfortheplanet.org (org is for organic)

The preceeding essay is total fiction, but not far removed from the absurd concept of carbon footprints and offsets.

A friend commented: "How sad, that satyre for us is reality for millions". How true. Our actions have consequences and extreme actions have extreme consequences, but there is something even more disturbing at the heart of this matter. It's the silence of the main stream press in reporting that most of these third world victims don't have white skin. The fact that they're almost exclusively people of color is blithely ignored by the eco-racists parading around in self-righteous green. To them, sacrificing black babies on the altar of environmentalism is acceptable for the forgiveness of sins against mother earth.

God didn't intend for us to ignore the suffering of others and Christians should not support climate policy that trades the weakest and most vulnerable for an untested solution to an unproven problem.

First Blog: Historical ignorance

Greetings to fellow Massachusetts conservatives and other "endangered" species.

With government and the culture of liberal ideology considering methods of curtailing our freedom of speech, it seemed timely to take advantage of our First Amendment rights while we still can.  Thank you Townhall.com for giving a forum to add one more voice in support of the principles of our Founding Fathers.

Since the 1960s academia has been producing obedient little socialists and the threat to our sovereignty has never been greater.  Institutions of higher learning have been reprogramming our young with an ideology that is antithetical to the values we tried to instill in them. The products of the academic left are legions of historically ignorant kids more inclined to embrace the Communist Manifesto than our own Constitution.

The scary part is that these young brownshirts are about to take their ignorance and naiveté into the voting booth and they are engaged in a wanton act of breaking down the American way of life. They have been taught to loath everything American, including the freedom they inherited from those who thought it was worth dieing for.  They've endured years of speech codes, sensitivity training, and have been coerced into accepting without question
everything except Christian and conservative values.

It's sad and ironic at the same time. These kids don't remember the lessons those like Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, Mao and Ho Chi Minh taught us. Fascist dictatorships, socialism and communism are not synonymous with the ideals young people think they're working for. Fairness and justice are not at the core of totalitarian governments. They may look good to some on paper, but the reality is quite different.  The acquisition of power by those listed above led to the wholesale slaughter of millions who were guilty of nothing more than having a different political opinion.  If we were governed in a like manner today, the kids calling for "change" could suffer the same fate.  Still, they advance the agenda and enthusiastically support Barack Obama.

Barack Hussain Obama has ties to those who hold Marxist views and see America as the enemy of the world.  It would be hard to believe Obama's close association and longtime friendship with them had no influence over his political leanings.  Birds of a feather flock together.

Of course Obama would never admit to being a socialist, but he certainly carries the water for those who are.  His tired message is a rehash of the same old leftovers.  The democratic party is still pushing the politics of class envy and stirring up the multitudes who believe in punishing anyone who fared better than themselves.  Instead of celebrating the good fortune of others, they resent them.  This is not an attitude God would approve of, but most of those in question don't know or trust God anyways.  They trust big government to solve the social ills of humanity.

It's taken years for these young people to pass through the Marxist birth canal, but here they are - all wet behind the ears and hoping to establish a government more in tune with their fuzzy vision for America.  They seek to elect a president who will bring us one step closer to their goal and Obama is that man.  But how could these kids know any better?  They've been tutored by the geniuses that brought us marijuana, LSD and worst of all - plaid bellbottoms.  I mean really, how good could their judgement be?

Decades of indoctrination by the social engineers has rendered ignorant the generations that could ultimately destroy America from within.  Power, in the hands of the ill informed, is dangerous and a significant portion of the most dangerous voting block in American history just graduated from a liberal arts college near you.
