Back in the late nineteen fifties, a mother attempted to explain how precious our freedom is and how blessed we are to enjoy the right of free speech. To help illustrate her point, she described a little bit about what life was like under communism. She told of the basic characteristics of communism and added in a little bit of something her son found nearly unbelieveable. She described how children raised in communism were taught to be loyal to the state exclusively. They were taught to hold the state in higher regard than anything else, even their families.
We can discuss the various nuances of a philosophy of this nature and make a case for the security of a nation trumps all, but there was something unnerving about this mother's lesson. Freedom of speech was not something communists in general enjoyed. In fact, it was discouraged. The state even went so far as to educate young children on how to recognize adult conversations they may have overheard involving any type of dissent or displeasure with the state. What's worse, these children were instructed to report anything suspicious to the authorities, even if it meant turning in their own parents.
In Nazi Germany, Adolph Hitler used a slightly different method of dealing with dissent. A corps of thugs was established to discourage any opposition to the fuhrer. They were an early Nazi group called Sturmabteilung or SA. AKA Brownshirts. According to High Beam Encyclopedia, the SA "was led by a radical anti-capitalist, Ernst Rohm". They were recruited from some of the rough neighborhoods where tough kids were used to violent physical confrontations. Their background made them uniquely qualified for the task at hand. That task was to disrupt, intimidate and drive off anyone who dare speak in opposition to Hitler. It worked too. The SA was directly responsible for Hitler's rise to become one of the worst mass murderers in history.
Under both of the aforementioned studies, millions and millions of human beings were held in slavery to the state. Anyone daring to oppose the status quo was incarcerated, murdered, gassed, incinerated or suffered other forms of unspeakable abuse by the ruling class. They were held in contept and extreme poverty, if allowed to live at all.
Its been said: "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it". That truth has never held more meaning than it does today.
The President Elect, Barack Obama recently called for the establishment of a new government program that should scare the daylights out of free thinking Americans. He said:
"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."
Ask yourself the following. What type of characters might be drawn to this new army of stormtroopers and what exactly will be their mission? With complaints of how a half dozen thugs in ACLU jackets showed up at one polling place to intimidate voters, we should be aware of the limitless possibilities for abuse under an Obama administration and how the mission could creep into areas that may potentially shred our Bill Of Rights.
If the GOP is smart, and its hard to tell sometimes, they will go to the mat opposing this one. Memo them: Don't get suckered into falling for this. Our grandchildren will thank you one day.
